Happy Birthday to Me!

Yesterday was my birthday. It started out pretty rough because I was very worried about my mom and dad, but everything turned out ok. I got lots of neat presents and cards and Paige sent me these flowers. They are very pretty and smelled really great!

A Future Olympic Skater?

Paige took Aaron for his first ice skating session today. He did great. Just look at that perfect form! He went skating with his friend Ethan. Notice how he has to hold Paige's hand to help her skate.....

Finally it has warmed up here today. Almost 50 and bright sunshine! I love it...Spring is in the air!

Wow, what a Gift!

I recieved the most wonderful early birthday present yesterday from my Uncle Wallace. He is my mother's middle brother and lives in Indiana! From the time I was born until I was 6 they lived in Harlan Co. and his daughter, Diane, was my older cousin and best friend. I was totally shocked to go to the post office yesterday and in the mail was a DVD of his old family movies from the 50's and 60's. Needless to say, I couldn't wait to get home from work and watch the DVD.

Well, do you remember the scene in National Lampoon Christmas Vacation with Clark Griswald sitting in the attic watching old home movies and crying....well, that was me last night (except I wasn't dressed up in old clothes).

The first time that I watched it, I couldn't see much for crying. It was so wonderful to see pictures of my mom and dad having a snow ball fight with me...all happy and laughing.....so I watched it several more times without tears and enjoyed it so much. I tried to take some still photos from it; but the quality is too poor.

But, needless to say, I appreciate it more than words can say.

My sister could ride a bicycle just about as soon as she could walk. She was determined to do everything that I could do. Our family doctor told us that when he saw her coming down the street on her bicycle, he just about died..she rode fast and wreckless and was just too small to be riding a bike!

Just One of those Days!

I woke up at 5:00 am with a headache. Fixed coffee and popped a few pills and it eased up a bit. I put a roast in the crock pot and got ready and went on to work. I read in a magazine that eating pineapple is good for sinus headaches, so I took my little container of pineapple and ate on that all day. At 10:00 am, I still have the headache, so I took a few more pills and ate more pineapple. Finally about noon the headache eased up.

I had to run home once to box up the valentine stuff for the grandchildren and run it back to the post office and stand in line. For some reason there is always a line at our post office. Maybe it is because everybody needs money orders, because they don't want the government to know how much money they actually have that they don't report. Anyway, it always aggravates me.

I came home for lunch and heated up last nights spaghetti. It was about 45 degrees out and rainy, so the spaghetti hit the spot.

Things were hectic as usual on Tuesday at the office, but it makes the day go by faster. After work I ran in to the dollar store to get some snacks for the game tonight. I was thinking about how good the house would smell when I walked in with the roast in the crock pot. Well, I came in and didn't smell anything and went over the crock pot and I had put it on "warm" setting instead of "high". So, we had to throw it out for the wild animals. So, dinner tonight was bologna sandwiches! Oh well, it was just one of those days.

A Change of Allegiance

Well, I don't own a University of Kentucky shirt of any kind, but I am strongly considering going out and buying one. UK now has Joker Phillips as coach and just hired Tee Martin as receiver coach. Hm, could I possibly go thru a Saturday during football season without wearing orange and singing Rocky Top. So, I had a thought, rare but true....surely there is a Rocky Top, Kentucky. So, I googled it....no dice. Well, that was surprising, so maybe since I live up on top of a hill that has been strip mined and still has a high wall, I can just name my house Rocky Top and I could sing:
Good Ole Rocky Top,
Rocky Top, Ken Tuck Ee
Hm, I am going to have to think about this one........................................

When a Month seems like a Year

Well, it has been a month since I have seen my sweet little grandchildren. I miss them so much. They moved away about 6 months ago, and I still miss them today as much as I did the month after they moved. They change so much when they are babies, that a month can make a big difference. It is hard not being a part of their lives. Maybe I should place an ad "Grandmother For Rent, loves big hugs, cooking and playing games"

Sometimes....

.....you just have to accept that things aren't always going to go the way you want them to
.....you just have to remember the good times
.....you have to search for happiness
.....you just have to fall back and punt
.....you have to just have a good cry
.....you have to just say "to hell with it" and throw a tent in your trunk and head for warmer climates...
