Long weekend with the Parents

Thursday I went to Benham and picked up mom and dad. It is always such a chore to get them packed to travel. Of course, they have no idea what to pack and they have started just piling their clothes up in various locations. They can dress themselves, but cannot pick out what to wear. So, I bought mother a couple of outfits before I went and I knew that daddy was getting some new clothes for his birthday, so that made it easier.

Saturday we went to the lake. Daddy doesn't like to travel, but Mother is always up for going and doing anything. We took them for a ride on the boat, which was pretty boring and hot. Daddy insisted that he could walk up the hill to the house....I should have known better. I carried a chair and let him sit every few feet, but still, by the time he got to the house he was really struggling to get a breath. I expected him to pass out any time and it scared me to death. We cooked out and Lindsay and Drew came over and we had a good time, but Daddy was sure ready to leave. On Sunday, Lindsay and I went swimming. The temperature of the pool water was just right. Mom and Dad just watched us from the porch. Tammy came and got them for a few hours and I took the opportunity to power wash the front steps, they were a real mess.

This morning we got up and I fixed their coffee and breakfast, undercooked the sausage, and started getting them ready to go home. I had to give both of them a bath and wash their hair and get them packed and medicated. My nerves were about shot by this time. Tammy came and got them and I started to fix lunch. We grilled steaks and had fresh green beans, corn on the cob and baked potatoes with Lindsay and Drew before they left.

Everyone has left, and our house is very quiet. As usual though, something always goes wrong...the downstairs AC unit isn't working...it is over 20 years old, so we will probably need a new one...there goes the new camper.....always something...

Happy Birthday Papa!

Daddy was 80 last Sunday, so we celebrated his birhday today at Tammy's house. Tammy has just repainted her living room. I reallylike the color.

Easy as fishing in a barrel

Where did all of my fish go? It is a mystery. Normally when fish die they float to the top of the pond. We recently drained our pond so that I could clean it. I started with 9 big gold fish. When we drained the pond I could only find 5. Hm, where did they go? So I took the 5 remaining fish and put them in our rain barrel while I cleaned the pond. Well, a few days later I am feeding the fish and low and behold there are only 2 in the barrel, none floating on top. Hm, what is going on? At first I thought that it must be a cat, but I can't imagine a cat getting in this deep barrel. We no longer have an outside dog and we are blessed with lots of critters now. We put a screen over the top of the barrel to try to keep the other fish from disappearing and so far it is working. I told the pool man about my disappearing fish and he said "raccoon". Then he tried to sell me a $700. German Sheperd for $200. I said, "no thanks".One of the bad things about not working is that you have to look at your house and all that needs to be done around it. I have never enjoyed planting anything or working in the yard. But now I don't have any excuse for my dull yard. So, today I bought new planters and a few plants and actually got my hands dirty to at least start making my house look like someone lives here. On a side note, even as a child I never liked playing in dirt! Here is my contribution for the day...

The pool and screen room are ready for summer! I bought a new solar cover that is supposed to heat the pool faster. The old one worked good, but this one is supposed to be better. It cost more anyway :)..... I bought floats yesterday, so we are good to go. The pool man is coming tomorrow to clean the concrete.

We love the screen room and play cards out there about every night BUG FREE!! So, tomorrow I am off to Benham to get the parents and bring them over here for as long as they will stay...they usually are ready to go home before we even get here.

What next?

When it rains it pours.....I am still sick and was sick during my whole vacation...I had a crick in my neck the day we left....I got stung by a wasp 3 times on the foot the day before we left....I got laid off the day before I left. I was unpacking and stuck a huge fish hook into my finger.....Mothers day is a hard day for me for many reasons.....I have a million things to do around the house, but don't feel like doing them........sometimes you just need to take another vacation!

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers, aunts, grandmothers, and anyone else that has been there for you throughout your life! I got a really cute, thoughtful card from Drew, Lindsay and Maddie and Drew just called to tell me a Happy Mothers Day. I got a cute card from my sister. I had hoped to be able to go to Benham and take my mother out to eat today, but I am afraid that I would give her this flu, so I just called her and I had some silk flowers sent to her yesterday. She fixates on colors and kept going on and on about all the pretty colors.

I forgot to post the picture of the flounder that I caught in Panama City. It wasn't a very exciting catch. I thought that I was "hung up on the bottom of the ocean", but as it turned out, I had hooked a big ole flounder, and they aren't fighters, so I thought that I was just hung up on something and I tugged around on it for a while before reeling it in. I was sure surprised.

Sick, sick, sick

I was sick the whole time we were on vacation, so I went to the dr. today for shots and meds! I sure hope it helps!

Our Trip

This is the view from our campsite at St. Andrews State Park. We just sat with our feet in the water and fished a little!
This was a frequent visitor at our site.

This was a Coast Guard boat that beached on a sand bar in the campground.

These are the ships that took 2 days to pull the boat off the sandbar.
