We started our vacation at the Aiken State Park in Aiken, SC. My nephew lives close to this park and DH had never been to visit them, so we thought this would be a good time. This is probably the smallest and most isolated park that we have ever camped in. It was so far out that we had absolutely no cell service. With my parents current condition, it makes me really nervous to be out of touch.
It is a small but beautiful park. We were in site 16. The campground was almost full, mostly by tenters. It has a beautiful river that flows through it and they rent canoes and kayaks. We didn't have time while we were there to float down it, but it sure looked beautiful. We just stayed in this park for 2 nights. Most of the other campers were locals and they were all so nice. I am always amazed at how nice the people in the south are. They love to talk to you and will go out of their way to help you.

While we were visiting my nephew he took us to Augusta to their River Walk area. I had been there several times, but Gene had not. It was so pretty.

Our first day in Charleston we toured Fort Sumter, the Yorktown (which is a huge maritime museum) and the submarine. In the background is the Charleston Bridge.

The Submarine
I am not claustrophobic, but I don't see how anyone stood being on a submarine! Charleston is a beautiful town!
And, I don't see how they landed planes on this ship! Here are some random shots of James Island County Campground and Folly Island Beach. We have declared this our favorite campground!

Although, we had a few gliches on this vacation..like our truck not running good and some health concerns for some family memebers, we had a great time! I was disappointed though, because we rode bikes and walked for miles and miles, didn't eat any snacks and we both stil gained weight! I guess it could have been the shrimp in grits with gravy and bacon! My favorite southern low country dish....OMG, it is sooooo good!
Sounds like a wonderful vacation to me.
