Rainy Day Project

Ok, it is raining again. Not just raining, it is absolutely pouring. Here is a picture of the water coming out of the gutter. It was unreal.

Since it was too bad to go to the World Chicken Festival, I decided to work on the apron that I made for Gene to wear to the "Taste of Clay County" First I had to find a picture of a gavel on the internet. I printed the picture and cut it out to see if it would fit on the apron. It fit just fine, so then I had to go to the Walmart and buy some transfer paper. So I run to the walmart and come back and print the picture off on the transfer paper. Then I had to cut the picture out again.
I bought some T-shirt lights to add a little "bling" to the apron and I couldn't decide where to put the lights, so my sister came to the rescue and helped me. So, while she determined the lights placement, I ironed the pictures onto the apron. My sister installed the lights and it turned out really cute. Here it is! Thanks sis, for your help!
And another picture....you can't really see the lights blinking, but it is really cute.

So, even though the weather is very bad today, I accomplished something that I needed to get done. Now, I just have to fix apple dumplings for 150 people a week from Thursday.

Serial Killer Mom

This time of year I always think about the movie "Serial Killer Mom". When I was growing up it was absolutely FORBIDDEN to wear white pants, white shorts, white skirts or white dresses after Labor Day. We also were not allowed to wear shoes without toes or heals. Any straw accessories such as purses or hats were also put away. And, no matter how hot it was outside, we had to put on T-shirts. And since white T-shirts were considered "underwear", we had to wear another shirt over it. This RULE had to be adhered to until Easter, when the whites and sandals could come back out and t-shirts were thankfully put away. I know that there is no rhyme or reason for these rules of dress; but when they are engraved on your brain all of your life, it is hard to get past it. I still look with distaste on people who wear white after Labor Day, but I am slowly getting past that, but the movie "Serial Killer Mom" always makes me laugh and reminds me that this fashion law is just silly. I just have one word for everyone

Goodbye Summer!

Time to start doing all of the end of summer stuff. We put a new cover on the River Hawk. It didn't get much use this summer. But, maybe it will get a lot more use when Drew gets out of law school. It is a really unique boat. It is a flat bottom canoe. It has an 8 hp Mercury and a trolling motor.

The pool man came today to put the winter cover on the pool. Hopefully this one will weather storms better than the one we had last year. We had planned on putting a hard cover on it, but since the babies won't be here, we just went with the old type cover.

I'm not very sad to see the summer end. It wasn't much of a summer anyway. It never did get really hot and it rained just about all summer. We will probably wait about a month before we bring the other boats out of the lake. We hope to get some fishing in before cold weather sets in. All of the experts say that we are going to have a mild, above average temperature, and dry winter....Ha! It will probably be very, very, cold with constant snow! All that "global warming" I guess!

Why oh Why do they do it?

Why do men constantly change the channels on the TV. Why do they feel that they have to hit the mute button every time you comment on something? The buttons on the remote that dear husband uses does not have numbers because he keeps his hand constantly on the buttons. What is wrong with watching a commercial? How will you ever know what the newest items from As Seen on TV are if you change channels whenever a commercial comes on.

I guess you can tell that I am aggravated by this constant changing. Today there are two great football games on that I have waited all week to watch. UK vs. Louisville and Tennessee vs. Florida. So, I thought that I would sit in the family room and watch them with Dear Husband. Well, that lasted about 2 minutes. The constant muting and changing channels just about drove me crazy, so I have retreated to my little TV to watch FOOTBALL COMPLETE WITH COMMERCIALS AND SOUND!

He is a Brave Soul!

My son-in-law is a stay at home dad. He seems to be really good at it. He is constantly taking the kids out to parks and events in their area. Anyone that has ever had two kids under 3 1/2 knows what a job it is to take them anywhere. I once went two months without leaving the house when mine were babies. But, Robert just packs them up and off they go. They go on train trips into the city, ball games (I'm talking big league, with huge crowds) parks, shopping and lots of other places. My hat's off to him! I know it isn't easy.

Sarah really enjoyed the game!

Trenton Paul - Stunt Man Extraordinare

Poor Trenton Paul.....he fell and broke his little collarbone. He kept jumping over his big brother and Paula Jo kept telling him to quit, but he kept doing it and he fell and landed on his shoulder and broke his collarbone. This is the same collarbone that was broken when he was born. So, now he is in a sling and in a lot of pain. Hope you are feeling better soon Trenton!

Happy Grandparents Day!

A Beautiful Day on the Lake

It was really nice on the lake today. We rode around for hours and then came back to the house for dinner and then decided to do a little fishing. It was so beautiful on the lake as the moon started to shine on the water.

We sure didn't have any luck fishing tonight though. We tried every different bait that we had. My Banjo minnow has been a disappointment. We tried top water bait, spinner bait and live bait, and didn't even get a nibble. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes.

There are some areas of the lake that are very close to Interstate 75. You can see where they have cut through this hill for the interstate.

I Can See Clearly Now

Well, after the glasses getting run over on the highway incident, I had to make a trip to the eye doctor. I was due a checkup anyway. So, we drove about 50 miles north to get some new glasses and contact lens. I had been TOLD by my little sister to get a stylish new frame. I also got multifocal lens. I love the multifocal lens, but my distant vision isn't great in them, but she said that she can increase that on my next visit if I am still unhappy with them in 10 days. This was my first experience with multifocal lens. I had always used monovision lens, which can really limit your distant vision and are never just right. So, the mulitfocal are really nice. I can see the TV at a distance, the computer and read! So far, so good. Here are the new glasses;

I hope little sister approves, but I don't count on it!

I sure am missing my sweet grandbabies! It isn't getting any easier..................

Craft Project of the Day

Several months ago I painted the walls of one of the bedrooms in my house. I had a little left over paint and decided to paint an old lampshade. It looked ok, but needed a little something. So, $2.57 later here is what it looks like
